The Rastriya Swatantra Party, the party of rapper and former Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah, is on track to secure a majority in parliament in the upcoming 2026 election. This is the first time in decades that a single party has achieved a majority, as Nepal's two-system format makes it difficult for any party to win outright. Shah also defeated former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, paving the way for him to become the next prime minister.
