Ex-Red Sox prospect ‘excited’ to face former team, represent Puerto Rico

Elmer Rodriguez, a former Red Sox prospect, has become one of the best pitching prospects in baseball and has been selected to represent Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Since joining the Yankees, Rodriguez posted a 2.58 ERA with 174 strikeouts in 150 innings last season, rising from High-A to Triple-A and entering 2026 ranked as the No. 59 prospect in MLB according to Baseball America. Despite the trade, Rodriguez downplayed the significance of playing against his former team.
