Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved Roman Gofman as the next head of the Mossad, following David Barnea's five-year term. Netanyahu praised Gofman's bold and creative approach and expressed confidence that he would strengthen Israel's security. Gofman will take over from Barnea as the country's top spy chief on June 2. Other notable praise came from IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, who suggested that if Gofman had not taken the role as head of Mossad he could have replaced his position as chief of staff. Barnea, who has a long-standing public feud with Gofman, strongly opposed the appointment, stating that Gofman is someone who abuses his power.
