New York City finally gets its first home battery storage system

New York City has its first home battery energy storage system installed on a rooftop, allowing for residential energy storage across the five boroughs. The 19.6-kilowatt-hour system was installed by Brooklyn SolarWorks and Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions, which used their AccESS platform as the only residential system permitted for rooftop installation in New York City. The battery design produces little heat and reduces the risk of thermal runaway. The companies have spent nearly eight years working with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) to secure these approvals. This could open the door for more homeowners to add energy storage.
