Princess Cruises is increasing mandatory gratuities for passengers, as many Americans are fed up with increasing tipping obligations. The cruise line will introduce a new “crew appreciation” fee and increase the cost of food and beverages starting March 8. Food and beverage service charges will be increased from 18% to 20% for those without a Princess Premier, Princess Plus [pass], and 100% of collected gratuaries will go directly to the crew. A survey by WalletHub found that nearly 90% of Americans think the country's tipping culture is out of control. The changes will help the cruise line keep pace with rising operational costs.
