Political scientist Larry Sabato called Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger's first-term approval rating, 47 percent and 46 percent respectively, "stunning" in a recent poll by the Washington Post-George Mason Schar School of Public Policy and Government. The rating is 13 percentage points below the average for Virginia governors since the 1990s. During her first two months in office, Spanberger issued an executive order barring state agencies from entering into cooperation agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and rejoining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which some analysts argue will increase energy prices. Independent voters are split in their view of Spanberger, with 45% approving and 46% disapproving of her first 2 months. Sabato warned that if Spanberger doesn't promote her policies, her approval rating could continue to plummet.
