U.S. forces have boarded an oil tanker previously sanctioned for smuggling Iranian crude oil, M/T Tifani, in a "right-of-visit maritime interdiction" conducted without incident. This move is part of a broader effort to stop any ship tied to Iran or those suspected of carrying supplies that could aid its government. The announcement comes ahead of the end of an already tenuous ceasefire between the U.S., Iran, and as Pakistan attempts to broker peace talks between the two countries. The Pentagon described the Tifanish as "stateless" despite it being a Botswana-flagged vessel. The military also detailed a list of goods it considers contraband, including weapons and oil, and an array of items that could be used in armed conflict.
