A student from William Jewell College, a cybersecurity program at the school, stopped a potential cyberattack against her college. Alexa Almejo, a part of the Cyber Security Program at the college, was alerted to eight high-level alerts during her shift and immediately stopped the threat. She enlisted the help of Cyber 429 Information Security Analyst Abby Harder to prevent hackers from gaining access to the college's data systems. The alerts were linked to a suspicious email received by a user in the college’s administration, who was in administration. The cyberattacks have been identified as soft targets for universities and colleges, with the most recent being two children who died. Almejos hopes to continue her career in cybersecurity after successfully stopping the attack.
