Research has revealed that the smoking rate in the United States has fallen to a record low, with scientists estimating that less than 10% of U.S. adults would no longer smoke a cigarette in 2024, marking the first time this rate has ever dropped to single digits. The researchers argue that more efforts are needed to further discourage the use of cigarettes and tobacco products. The study used data from the National Health Interview Survey, a long-running annual and nationally representative poll of Americans’ lifestyle habits conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, there are still challenges to keep tobacco under control.
