The fight against fraud fraud within the government seems to be losing, with recent sentences from the same federal judge in the “Feeding the Future” scandal in Minnesota suggesting that stealing from the government appears to be a viable business plan for criminals. Convicted thief Abdul Abubakar Ali was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for stealing millions of dollars in government funds, while convicted thief Zamzam Jama was sentenced for six months in prison for participating in the theft of $4.3 million in fraudulent child nutrition program funds. The author argues that while there are 78 "Feeding The Future" defendants so far convicted and many have been convicted, most cases have not yet resulted in sentencing. However, the few other sentences that have been delivered are better deterrents to future fraud. This article also notes that an anti-fraud division at the Department of Justice has been assigned by President Trump to lead a national antifraud task force.
