Grand Casino Arena, home to the NHL’s Minnesota Wild since 2000, has been hosting events such as a hockey team and a professional women's volleyball team in 2027. The St.Paul Saints recently opened a new ballpark in Lowertown, with a fixed seating capacity of 7,210, which is 1,326 more than the old stadium in the Midway. Allianz Field will open in 2019 with the Minnesota United FC professional men's soccer team. Despite some studies concluding that there is a limited economic benefit to a community hosting a sports stadium, these are cited as reasons for subsidizing the building or renovation of such a stadium with tax dollars.
