Two of Ohio's representatives in Congress, Mike Carey and Mike Turner, voted to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian migrants through 2029. The bill, which passed 224-204, would protect the legal status of 330,735 Haitian migrants in the US. This is particularly crucial for the area of Springfield, which is home to about 10% of Haitian migrants on TPS. The resolution still faces a veto from President Donald Trump, who has been pushing to expel Haitian migrants from the U. Many in the House argued that Haiti is not safe to return to due to high crime and violence. Four former Ohio attorneys general have written a letter supporting the extension of TPS, arguing that it would harm Ohio's economy and communities.
