Rangers manager Skip Schumaker revealed that rookie Carter Baumler had made the team during a midgame mound visit. Baumlers, a Rule 5 pick from the Baltimore Orioles, had only pitched seven innings above Class A when the Rangers acquired him. Despite this, Baumer impressed with his performance during the spring, including a 9 ⅓ “A” game innings without an earned run allowed and striking out 10 and walking two. The decision means Luis Curvelo and Josh Sborz will both begin the season in the minors. However, they do not have a clearly-defined reliever in the bullpen.
