Georgia lawmaker, Jason Anavitarte, has proposed a proposal to dissolve the City of Hiram, one of the cities in his district, which is on the verge of running dry. The Hiram City Mayor and Council issued a statement expressing concerns about the proposal, urging citizens to contact their delegates in the Georgia General Assembly about it. The city stated that if dissolved, it would shift the power to other local governments and result in higher costs and less local control for residents. Anavittate responded by stating that only one option for addressing the financial issues was to dissolve.
