Staff at Cellar 426 Winery in Ashland, Neb., faced a difficult harvest after spring frost killed some of the buds in the vineyards in early May, costing the business between $10,000 to $20,000. The staff at the winery spent the weekend harvesting over a ton of grapes, which is nearly half of what is usually harvested. Richard Hilske, who has owned Cellar426 Winery for over a decade, said he has never faced an obstacle more challenging than this one. The winery is now finding other ways to serve customers and sourcing other grapes from other vineyards. Despite the difficult weekend, Hilskes remains a favorite for the harvest.
