The Artemis 2 crew, the first astronauts to see the entire basin of Orientale Basin on the moon, took a photo on April 4, 2026, on the fourth day of their journey to the moon. The astronauts will continue observing Orientale from multiple angles throughout the lunar flyby. The crew also returned observations of lunar craters, its vast basalt plains, brightness variations, and other details. The observations were appreciated by NASA's Artemis 2 science team, who have been training the astronauts for months. The Apollo mission will fly by the moon on Monday (April 6), starting at 1 p.m. EDT (1700 GMT).
