NASA's Artemis 2 moon astronauts are fortunate to have a private space toilet, unlike Apollo crews who used to use plastic bags. The mission, currently targeting an expedition of four astronauts, will send four on a 10-day trip around in NASA's capsule. This will be the first crewed flight to lunar realms since December 1972. The Apollo crew module was even smaller at 210 cubic feet, but only three astronauts flew aboard it at a time. The toilet, or "hygiene bay," is similar to the one used on the US ISS where astronauts use urine to recycle it into water. However, the mission will also be the debut for the Orion hygiene bay, which is designed to handle solid waste.
