How native plants can make your yard wildlife-friendly

The Garden Club of America has established April as Native Plant Month in 44 states, including Michigan. Experts suggest that planting native plants provides the best food for local wildlife and conserves our habitats. The right planning, combinations and choices can result in minimal maintenance due to the plants' adaptability to climate. Lindsey Kerr, a horticulture educator for MSU Extension in Wayne County, suggests that aiming for 70% of the plant is better than no one. For non-gardeners, even potted native plants on a balcony can make a difference.
