Wildlife expert Kate MacRae, known as WildlifeKate, has set up over 20 hidden cameras in a garden in Worcestershire, which she believes could be the first time to record a badger giving birth in the wild. The secret garden, Yew View, features rare species such as coots, moorhens, sparrowhawks and bats, as well as tawny owls, foxes, polecats, muntjac deer and otters. MacRAE was hired to make the nine-acre site more attractive for rare animals and installed high-definition and infrared cameras to monitor its activities. She also built an artificial badger sett, which took two years before the badgers used it properly. In 2022, a female badger brought lots of bedding into the sett and filmed the first recorded video of a badg giving birth. The footage was featured on BBC Springwatch.
