France's Macron sympathises with authors who quit Bollore-owned publisher

French President Emmanuel Macron has defended editorial diversity following the resignation of over 100 authors from French publishing house Grasset, owned by conservative billionaire Vincent Bollore. The authors, who included Dany Laferriere and Dominique Bona, expressed their opposition to Bollore's influence in an ideological war that seeks to impose authoritarianism on culture and the media. The protest was prompted by the departure of the publisher's chief executive, Olivier Nora, without explanation. Bollore is the biggest shareholder in Louis Hachette, with a 31% stake, and is also the main shareholder of media conglomerate Vivendi.
