Dentists across Massachusetts are concerned that Gov. Maura Healey's proposal to place a $1,000 annual cap on MassHealth dental coverage would significantly reduce services for nearly 2 million Bay Staters. The proposal is supported by oral health advocates who are urging the Healey administration to restore full adult dental benefits under MassHealth in the governor's $63.4 billion budget request for the next fiscal year. The state estimates that an annual cap could save $120 million. However, state officials argue that balancing sustainability and costs is causing them to balance costs. The cap does not apply to pediatric dental benefits. The Massachusetts Dental Society, representing over 5,000 dentists, has urged lawmakers to reconsider the cap proposal.
