Nvidia announces Vera Rubin Space-1 chip system for orbital AI data centers

Nigments have announced the launch of a chip system for orbital data centers, the Vera Rubin Space-1 Module, which includes the IGX Thor and Jetson Orin, which will be used on space missions led by multiple companies. The chip is designed for size, weight, and power-constrained environments. However, there are still engineering hurdles to overcome, including cooling systems in space. The data center buildout that powers AI demand has been blamed for high electricity costs and high costs.
