Wembanyama revels in safety of Hall of Famers, fans in playoff debut as Spurs top Blazers

Victor Wembanyama made his playoff debut for the San Antonio Spurs against Portland, setting a franchise record for the most in a playoff debut, surpassing Tim Duncan's 32 points in 1998. The sell-out crowd at the Frost Bank Center was packed with Spurs Hall of Famers, including Gregg Popovich, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and George Gervin. Wemanyama scored 35 points, including 21 first-half points in the opening half of an NBA playoff debut since 1997. The team had not played in the playoffs since 2019, a six-season drought that followed San Antonio winning five NBA championships and appearing in a league-tying 22 straight postseasons.
