Ricko Jones, a former squad mate of Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah, who was killed and injured in the shooting at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, will attend his funeral service in Portsmouth, Va. The gunman, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State and will be released from federal custody in December 2024. Jones, who served in the 82nd Airborne Division based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, recalled their close relationship and how Shah was always involved with younger troops. The FBI recognized Shah's bravery and selfless heroism following the attack, which occurred a week after the shooting. The two wounded in the attack are members of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at ODU.
