The New York Supreme Court has been asked to uphold Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian immigrants. This comes after several designations were threatened with termination or non-renewals in the past year. In November, around 6,000 TPS holders from Syria were granted a stay to continue their protections while the courts reviewed the country's current conditions. A federal judge temporarily blocked the termination of TPS for Haitian immigrants, and nearly 57,000 Haitians were given a reprieve to them in New York. The future of these immigrants remains uncertain, as their case will be jointly heard by the Supreme Court on April 29. The authors argue that ending TPS would devastate the health care system and patients who rely on their care. They also warn against sending any immigrant back to their home country during ongoing political instability and environmental crises.
