The Senate confirmed Sen. Markwayne Mullin as the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, a close ally of President Donald Trump and a controversial figure with a history of opposing LGBTQ+ rights. Mullin will oversee a sprawling agency that includes Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He was confirmed in a 54-45 vote, with Democratic Sens. John Fetterman and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico crossing party lines supporting him.
