The Ridgefield BOE Budget Committee has reviewed changes to its financial reporting and assessment of the district's budget. The committee also addressed concerns about increased spending that could impact year-end projections. The most significant concern was a recent increase in special education spending, which was attributed to extended contracts for paraprofessional support, changes in student placements to more specialized programs, and a rise in psychiatric evaluations. Committee member Rob Martire suggested that additional forecasting and trend analysis should be included in the reports, particularly projections for the remainder of the fiscal year and comparisons to prior years. Administrators also discussed whether athletics revenue should be reinvested directly into specific programs rather than absorbed into the broader budget.
