Long Beach is celebrating Earth Month with free family-friendly events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities throughout April. The festivities will focus on sustainability issues such as supporting local wildlife, reducing waste and stewarding community spaces. The city has published an Earth Month Calendar at lbcity.info/lbem to share different community activities. The Brooms Across West Long Beach is inviting residents to participate in a cleanup effort from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11. Recycling Drives will be held to collect eligible California Redemption Value items, which are donated to the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department and Retail Marketing Services Inc.’s CRV CONNX recycling program. The Health and Human Services Department's Tobacco Education and Prevention Program will host a free event at Recreation Park, 4900 E. Seventh St., to highlight how tobacco litter harms the planet.
