Sixteen cities across the United States, Mexico, and Canada are set to host the 2026 World Cup in June and July. Approximately half of the host locations experience high levels of extreme heat, which could pose a significant threat to players, match officials, and spectators. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has noted that July is typically the hottest month of the year for the contiguous U.S. Some stadiums are fully covered, reducing the risks. Other measures include allowing teams for 3-minute hydration breaks during each half of matches and allowing for rest days between matches. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will be distributing heat safety and proper hydration information.
