Two progressive Democrats are vying for the open District 27 seat in the Oregon House, representing Beaverton and its northern suburbs in Beaverton. The Oregonian/OregonLive asked both Tammy Carpenter and Ashley Hartmeier Prigg to answer key questions about their respective qualifications. Carpenter, who has lived in the district for over 20 years, has a track record of fighting for ordinary working people as a doctor and school board member, including expanding free school breakfast and lunch to all students and protecting students from ICE. Hartmeier Pigg, meanwhile, has delivered tangible results as a local parks district director and Beaverton city councilor, focusing on key policy priorities and being a collaborative problem solver. He also plans to introduce a wealth tax to fund universal child care and strong Oregon schools. Carpenter plans to lead the fight to protect the Oregon Health Plan and champion universal health care.
