A Brooklyn judge has ruled that Carl Miller, who served 30 years in prison for the murder of a prominent Crown Heights rabbi, is actually innocent. In a 49-page decision, Judge Guy Mangano stated that there was "clear and convincing evidence" that Miller, now 65, was innocent. The ruling was hailed as "historically significant" by his lead lawyer, James Henning. Henning had filed a motion to vacate the conviction in May 2024 on numerous grounds, including insufficient evidence and police and prosecutorial misconduct. Despite being released from prison in 2019, Miller set about clearing his name so his family could live without being related to a convicted killer.
