Airline companies have warned that jet fuel prices will increase due to jet fuel shortages, despite the Trump administration insisting that the rising costs are temporary. Jet fuel prices have nearly doubled since the beginning of Operation Epic Fury and a sharp increase in crude oil prices, according to the International Air Transport Association. United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby estimated that oil costs will rise to $175 per barrel and will not return to $100 by late 2027, and that airfare could rise up to 20% to break even from oil-related expenses. The airline industry felt the brunt of the shutdown, which shut down 10% of air traffic temporarily at 40 major airports in November. International airlines also increased prices amid rising fuel costs. JetBlue raised checked baggage fees up to $9 and domestic baggage prices increased from $35 to $39 to offset rising oil prices.
