Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana has been criticized for his over-the-top yokel routine, comparing him to cartoon characters like Foghorn Leghorn of Looney Tunes and other cartoon characters from his boyhood. Despite these appearances, Kennedy has a degree in philosophy from Vanderbilt and a law degree from the University of Virginia, and did postgraduate work at Oxford. His family was once among the richest in Louisiana and his farm was passed down through his family since before the Civil War. Despite this, some believe that Kennedy's exaggerated appearance may mislead the uninformed to think he is an educated man.
