A rule passed by the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board allows anglers to keep an unlimited number of round gobies, provided they are dead. The rule is intended to allow sport fishers to kill the invasive aquatic species and potentially manage the newly discovered population of gobies in Lake Winnebago. The change comes after an angler found a round goby in Lake Winnnebgo in 2025 and several dozen more were found in the area. The previous regulation limited anglers' possession of one round gobby to be brought to a Department of Natural Resources office. The new rule allows angler to keep any harvested gobies provided they have been removed from the water. The move aligns with department management goals and will allow anglers and the department to provide a consistent message about those goals.
