Suburban high schools scramble to find graduation venues after U backs out of hosting

Suburban high schools across the Twin Cities are scrambling to find new graduation venues after the University of Minnesota decided to stop hosting its graduation ceremonies at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The change, announced in October, came after years of accommodating more than 20 large ceremonies in a compressed period, which was deemed "no longer sustainable" due to staffing, logistics and security pressures. Some districts were left with more than four times the cost of reserving Mariuci at the U.S. Bank Stadium. The increased cost comes as most metro school districts face budget deficits. The Anoka-Hennepin School District, the state’s largest district, moved four of its five traditional high schools’ ceremonies to U.
