Seventeen Americans who were on a cruise ship affected by a hantavirus outbreak are returning to the US and will be quarantined in Nebraska. The ship, MV Hondius, is expected to arrive at the Spanish island of Tenerife, off the coast of West Africa, with passengers being taken to a "completely isolated, cordoned-off area" for medical observation. The quarantine measures are being taken out of precaution due to the rare but serious virus typically spread through contact with infected rodent droppings, urine, or saliva. The passengers will be monitored closely while in quarantine and evaluated for any signs of illness. Despite the outbreak, President Donald Trump has no plans to reconsider leaving the World Health Organization (WHO).
