The Artemis II crew was further from Earth than any other humans have been in over 50 years. The mission provided unprecedented data on human health and physiology. The crew, including pilot Victor Glover, Commander Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, and Canadian Jeremy Hansen, also sent back reflections on the isolation of deep space and the human body. Despite minor issues with the capsule toilet, the mission was a critical test of the Orion spacecraft before NASA attempts a lunar landing with Artemis III. The Apollo astronauts were the first human to explore deep space, and NASA is using Artemis II to develop knowledge about how humans are prepared to move to Mars. The goal of the mission is to ensure astronauts can survive and return quickly to Earth where returning quickly isn't an option.
