This Cemetery Has Been Hiding Millions of Residents for Almost 100 Years

Researchers from Cornell University have discovered that around 5.6 million ground-nesting bees have been living in the East Lawn Cemetery in Ithaca, New York for nearly a century. The species, Andrena regularis, has been observed at the cemetery since at least 1935. Researchers used trapping and sampling methods to estimate the number of bees emerging during spring, compared to a typical honeybee colony.
