The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been without pay for over a month, raising concerns that the shutdown could increase security risks. Aviation experts, including Keith Jeffries, who ran TSA at Los Angeles International Airport and is now a vice president of K2 Security Screening Group, suggest that the wait times are increasing, creating a security vulnerability. The war with Iran, which started three weeks ago, adds to the agency's wide-ranging threats. TSA agents are among 61,000 Department of Homeland Security employees not getting paid while Democrats and Republicans are in legislative gridlock on immigration reform. The agency has warned that screening could be stopped at some small airports, effectively shutting them down.
