'Would’ve been... a very bad mistake': Delta flight contacts wrong airport on approach

A Delta Connection jet was on its final approach to LaGuardia Airport when it mistakenly contacted the wrong control tower, causing confusion before landing. The flight was operated by Republic Airways and the crew performed a go-around and landed safely after contacting the correct tower. Former NTSB Chairman Robert Sumwalt warned that the situation could have been serious if the plane had not received landing clearance. The FAA is investigating the incident.
