Zoo New England’s Franklin Park Zoo in Boston is using a tiny, endoscopic camera to monitor the growth of a baby kangaroo inside its mother's pouch. The camera allows staff members to observe the development of the baby western grey kangaroos, which are typically underdeveloped at this stage but still grow inside their mother's pouches. This technology allows the animal care team to confirm the birth of a joey much earlier than traditional visual inspections and intervene if necessary. The baby, which was born around Aug. 15 to mother Opal, 4, and father Howie, 3, has been documented its healthy development since its birth and is expected to fully emerge from its pouch soon.
