The Cure, Ed Sheeran, and major music industry players are urging the UK government to not delay its promise to ban ticket touting from legislation. The Labour party's 2024 election campaign pledged to ban the practice of ticket reselling beyond face value and other measures to "put fans first" across music, entertainment, and sport events. The measure is expected to be included in the King's Speech (May 13), but may not become law until 2027. The ban has been supported by a wide swathe of the U.K. music industry and its artists, including O2, who sponsor 20 music venues across the UK. However, a report by the Financial Times suggests that the government is unlikely to include a full bill addressing the issue.
