The director of the Pentagon's Economic Defense Unit (EDU), Michael Kollitides, has been nicknamed "Deal Team Six" for his role in national security efforts. The unit was allocated hundreds of millions of dollars in the fiscal 2027 budget budget for that period, which totaled $1.5 trillion. The funds will be used to motivate defense contractor output, study what the U.S. lacks, conduct due diligence, hire experts, and conduct "sensitive activities". Kolletide also mentioned that China has been waging economic warfare against the United States for nearly 30 years.
