President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran back to the Stone Ages if there is no deal, threatening to destroy Iran's electrical plants and oil facilities. This strategy is seen as an off-ramp for the midterm elections in November, where two-thirds of Americans strongly disapprove of his war with Iran. Despite this, Iran continues to launch enough drones and missiles to threaten shipping away from the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which about 20% of global oil trade flows. The International Atomic Energy Agency estimates that Iran still has enough enriched uranium hidden away to develop ten nuclear bombs. Despite these threats, Iran's leaders still hold significant power to damage Trump, his political prospects, and American interests.
