Supreme Court arguments make it clear that FCC fines are "nonbinding"

The Supreme Court has dismissed AT&T and Verizon's claim that the Federal Communications Commission's procedure for imposing fines violates their right to a jury trial. The companies were fined $104 million for selling users' real-time location data without consent. However, even if they lose this case, the court appears to agree that FCC fines are nonbinding and require a court decision to enforce them. The government may change the language of its forfeiture orders to make it clear that fines don't have to be paid until after the jury trial, according to a government lawyer. The case is being defended by the Trump administration, who argue that the FCC did not mislead carriers.
