AI builders push ahead as skepticism grows

The AI+DC Summit, held at Axios, revealed differing opinions from industry leaders and lawmakers from both the left and the right. The AI industry argues that the technology will create new jobs, increase productivity, and transform daily life for the better, but concerns are growing about children, power bills, and livelihoods. Meta president Dina Powell McCormick called AI an "equalizer" that could lead to the democratization of many industries and potential jobs. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) highlighted AI's harms to children and communities disproportionately affected by AI data centers. White House science and tech adviser Michael Kratsios insisted that the Trump administration could still be bullish on AI innovation and address public fears.
