Former Las Vegas resident Alex Smith, known for his knowledge of hockey, has become a savvy NHL handicapper and producer of The Ice Guys, a popular daily puck podcast. His grandfather, John Phillips Sr., played baseball and pitched for the Hernando Black Giants in Mississippi before moving to Chicago in 1955. During the NHL’s lockout-shortened 1994-95 season, games of the minor-league Chicago Wolves captivated Alex, who could detect nuances in the game. Alex has since partnered with Canadian Ian Cameron to produce The Ice Guy. Alex credits his passion for hockey for helping him navigate the game's line changes.
