The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has revealed that single women purchasing their first homes have significantly outperformed single men in the housing market, marking the first time this income gap has reversed since tracking began. This shift comes in a challenging housing market where the median existing home price is at $398,000 and first-time buyers face challenging affordability conditions. Single women now account for 25% of all first time homebuyers, compared to only 10% for single men. The NAR's 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers analyzed transactions completed between July 2024 and June 2025. The most likely explanation for this shift lies in women choosing to buy homes right now rather than otherwise.
