Crash Killed Former NJ Assemblyman In Newark, Charges Filed Against Other Driver

John M. Arango-Taborda, 27, of Elizabeth, has been arrested in connection with the fatal crash that resulted in the death of Alberto Coutinho, a former New Jersey Assemblyman. The fatal collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning near McCarter Highway and South Street. Coutinho was pronounced dead at University Hospital after being transported there. He was known for his dedication to youth soccer programs and community service, and was a prominent figure in Essex County and the Portuguese community. The Ironbound Community Corporation called Coutinho a "proud son of the Ironbound community."
