105-Year Prison Term For Aurora Man Convicted Of Murder

Travares O. Mitchell, 51, was convicted of murdering 46-year-old Serhonda Burnett in 2024. Mitchell had fired three gunshots into Burnett's car, causing her to suffer 10 gunshot wounds. A warrant was obtained for Mitchell's arrest in February 2024 and he was taken into custody in Florida two weeks later. The first-degree murder conviction carried a sentence of 20 to 60 years in addition to a mandatory add-on of 25 years to life in prison. Mitchell was sentenced to 55 years for the offense of murder, plus an additional 80 years for armed habitual criminal. He must serve 100 percent of the 80-year sentence for both the murder and the felony for the felony.
